When a new year begins, I like to reflect on the previous year. This allows me to review what worked and what didn’t work, as well as identify areas in which I would like to improve, dreams that I would like to fulfill, and goals that I would like to achieve.

Below are a few questions that I like to reflect on.

  1. What were the highlights of my year?

I like to break this down into categories based on what I consider important, e.g., travel, work, family, health, finances, faith.

By reflecting on these highlights, you might uncover ways in which you feel you could have done better. For the new year, you might want to set goals or intentions to improve in those areas.

  1. What was the most challenging part of the past year?

By identifying what was most challenging, you can reflect on whether those challenges made you better or whether you must make changes to prevent those challenges from arising again.

It’s important to note that not all challenges are bad. Some challenges allow us to stretch and grow and step out of our comfort zone. However, other challenges can lead to stress, health issues, or unhappiness.

  1. What goals that I set for the past year did I achieve? Which of my achieved goals am I most proud of?

Reflecting on the goals you set out to achieve in the past year is important. It shows you what you’re capable of doing. These are the achievements you can look back on when doubt or fear creeps in. Remember your past achievements. If you did it once, you can do it again.

Perhaps you didn’t quite achieve everything you set out to do. That’s ok. Review those goals and see if they still align with what you want. If they do, move them over to 2023. If they don’t, it’s time to set new goals.
