A while back I noticed that when I conducted a search on my mobile device, there was a message next to it that said “mobile friendly”. After much testing of mobile friendly websites as a ranking factor, Google has announced that effective April 21 it will be including mobile friendly factors in its search algorithm. How does these changes affect your website?

If your website or the websites of your clients are not mobile friendly, you want to take the necessary steps to ensure that it is. If not you will see a drop in your rankings. Websites that are mobile friendly will be rewarded with higher rankings. You can test to see if your website is mobile friendly by taking Google’s Mobile Friendly Test. Here’s the link
If your website is already mobile friendly, then you don’t have much to worry about. Just ensure that you adhere to the factors that make a website mobile friendly, which are:

• Website Font – Ensure that your website text is in a font that is easily accessible and easy to read without a user having to zoom in to view and read your text.
• Website Technology – If your website utilizes technology such as Flash that is not compatible to mobile devices, then you want to resolve this issue right away by switching to a javascript or jquery for rotating images.
• Website Content – Your website content must be easily accessible without having to scroll horizontally but in a natural format when browsing on mobile device, upwards and downwards.
• Site Links – Keep links a distance from each other so that it is easy for a user to click on one link without being frustrated by a the other links that are getting in the way.
